What kinds of people do the Landmark
Forum,
and why do they do it?
The
Landmark Forum particularly seems to attract people
who are interested in bringing things to the next level,
or being more effective in a certain area, or operating
with greater ease and freedom, or who simply consider
life an adventure. Their interests, ages, and geographic
and economic backgrounds are widely varied.
Some are curious. They like what they see and hear from
their friends, and they want to find out about it for
themselves.
Others are interested in giving themselves a certain
advantage or
edge in dealing
effectively with, and even embracing, change.
While the programs are designed for healthy, successful
people, many psychologists recommend the programs – not
in the therapeutic sense, but as an opportunity to see
beyond the plateau of one's current life.
In independent research, Landmark graduates report major
positive results in the following areas:
The
quality of their relationships.
The
confidence with which they conduct their lives.
Their personal productivity.
The
experience of the difference they make.
The
degree to which they enjoy their lives.
Participants overwhelmingly report that their
participation in The Landmark Forum yields not mere
insights or improvements, but provides lasting results
that expand and unfold over time.
Some people say that their friends and family
continually ask them to take the course and speculate
that Landmark encourages participants in their programs
to pressure others to participate. From my direct
observation of the company and from conversations with
participants, I would say that while Landmark encourages
participants to share the benefits they have gotten with
people in their lives, they understand that the program
will not be for everyone.
In fact,
they are committed that no one is pressured to do
anything- either in their guest events or in
conversations people have with others. While a small
group of people’s commitment to share the education may
come across as “overzealous,” from what I see, the
sharing that takes place is no different than when
someone enthusiastically shares their opinion of a movie
or concert that inspired or moved them. When you run
across something great in this world – particularly
something that’s profoundly impacted your life – you
naturally want to share that with others.
